Hydrogen permeability – from fuel cells to food & fertilisers

Hydrogen permeability – from fuel cells to food & fertilisers

The hydrogen permeability of the membranes in a fuel cell is critically important to its efficiency (500%+).  And it’s just as important for the petroleum, glass, semiconductors, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, power plants and even vegetable oil industries as well!

The snag is that, traditionally, it is hard, time consuming and expensive to measure this permeability.  But now, Versaperm has introduced a dedicated, fast and accurate way to do this enabling both fuel cells and industrial processes to be easily improved and optimised.

A more general version of the equipment, based on mass spectroscopy, is available for use with other gasses.

The equipment offers a precise measurement of hydrogen permeability and it can be used on flat material samples or fully finished components and equipment.
The system is fast, reliable and easy to use. It produces results that are accurate in the parts per million (PPM) to parts per billion (PPB) ranges.  Where desired, the equipment can also control temperature, pressure and other environmental factors.

A multi-chamber option even allows measurements to be taken on several membranes, gaskets or fuel cells at a single time.  This gives designers and manufacturers the ability to test potential materials quickly so they can fine-tune and optimise materials and membrane structures.

As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm offers a technical consultancy service plus a permeability testing service for companies that need to test packaging or materials on an irregular basis..
